Mordecai - Chicago
Named for legendary Cubs pitcher Mordecai Brown, this new bi-level cocktail bar is a change of pace from Wrigleyville's longstanding reputation for sports bars and cheap bear. Located in the Hotel Zachary, the bar and restaurant comes from Matthias Merges, the chef/owner behind other spots like Billy Sunday, A10 and Gideon Sweet, along with acclaimed chef Jared Wentworth and barkeep Alex Bachman.
Mordecai is a slick, contemporary spot featuring elegant tavern-inspired dishes by Wentworth, paired with a bracing drink list heavy on whiskeys and other dark American spirits, befitting its proximity to Wrigley Field across the street.
While downstairs is more airy and casual, the upstairs bar is more focused on rare bottles and higher-end mixology. There's also a nice balcony looking out at the iconic field from the second floor.
