Funkenhausen - Chicago
Noted Chicago Chef Mark Steuer skillfully combines his Germanic and Southern heritage at this gastropub-styled eatery in West Town. Formerly the chef at Hot Chocolate, El Che Bar and Carriage House, Steuer offers hearty plant-forward and meat-focused dishes at Funkenhausen.
Highlights range from charred broccolini in buttermilk dressing to what he dubs "big ass" veal schnitzel that's accompanied by charred lemon, baby squash and gribiche.
The space is wide and open, with one side of the room reserved for dining and the other for gathering over drinks and food. The soundtrack at Funkenhausen is classic and contemporary funk--of course.
