We were in the area so stopped based on the recent Milwaukee Magazine article. My wife ordered a pork chop dinner off the regular menu and said everything was great. I ordered one of the nightly specials, a bone-in Kansas City strip steak with baked potato, sautéed mushrooms and onions. I ordered the steak medium but I could tell as soon as I started to cut it that it was underdone. After cutting through it, it was clearly cooked rare at best with some parts I would call even close to barely cooked at all looking more like raw meat. In addition, there was also an unusual amount of silver skin which is totally inedible. The waitress, who was wonderful by the way, explained when we arrived that they were short handed. We could see that she was running around like mad trying to cover more tables than she normally would and so l didn't want to add to her burden by sending my meal back. I ended up taking more than half of it home to reheat/cook it properly for, I don't know, steak and eggs? Tipped well for our waitress's sake as she was great and doing the best she could. In hindsight, I wish I would have ordered anything else, like the German food they're noted for instead. As far as I'm concerned, they should stay away from steak. I didn't see steak on their menu at all but thought if it's a special it would be a safe bet. Maybe if the chef used an instant-read thermometer he could know the cut of meat is
The variety of food was wonderful. A very good selection. The 4 of us had 4 different main entries and they were all excellent. The chef and owner are the same person, and he does a great job. A family run business that made us feel like we were family. Will definitely return.

Fish was delicious! Went on a Friday night during lent. Waited only 20 min or so at bar. I started with a clam chowder that was very very good. Chowder had Red potatoes, good seasoning, and bits of clam that blended well. On to the fried cod…The fish batter was buttery, seasoned just right, and had excellent texture. The batter complimented the flavors of the cod that was cooked perfectly. The tartar was tangy and well made. Cole slaw had a sweet and creamy taste that melded well with everything else. Also I ordered the German potato salad that was Smokey and sweet. Wait staff was lovely. I highly recommended Wegner’s fish fry. @bestfry_mke has good fish fry reviews on IG
