Uproar

Uproar - Chicago

It’s not easy opening a bar or a restaurant during an international pandemic, but Uproar is proving that with the right high-quality comfort food, a restaurant can weather any storm.

Uproar specializes in accessible, approachable food that can be equally pleasing at home or in a restaurant: unpretentious, unremittingly delicious, and much of it suitable for eating with the hands. Case in point: the Uproar Burger, simply hand-shaped dry-aged chuck, special sauce, and aged cheddar on a brioche bun and, yes, fries come with that.

All the food at Uproar is the kind that helps you relax, take your mind off the world’s troubles, and enjoy a few bites of simple satisfaction.

Mac n’ Cheese, perhaps the ultimate comfort food, is upgraded at Uproar, but only enough to make it special with Hook’s three-year old cheddar, breadcrumbs and rotini (bet you didn’t see that last ingredient coming). Having a good cheese in your Mac n’ Cheese can definitely make all the difference.

From the “modern” section of the menu, there’s Midwest Hushpuppies (white cheddar cheese curds – a nice touch -- and Louisiana hot sauce butter) and a Fried Chicken Sandwich (house dill pickles, Calabrian chile, and crunchy coleslaw).

There are also a few salads and soups.

Designed to be a late-night stop for drinks and food, Uproar is ready for the pandemic to end so business-as-usual can kick in. The Uproar building has large garage doors off Wells Street, which should make for superior airflow and pleasing summer breezes inside the restaurant once everything is back to normal. And when it is back to normal, expect Uproar to come roaring back
