Izakaya Mita is a restaurant in Bucktown that exhibits a Japanese-American take on this traditional Japanese “Pub” concept. This family-run restaurant features Japanese plates and an ample selection of sake in a cozy dining room setting.

We ordered karaage, tempura, shrimp shumai, and a few robata. Pictured are the chashu braised pork belly, Sakura duroc pork sausage, and beef ribeye robata (from top to bottom) and the shrimp shumai. Everything was great and my favorite was the pork sausage. I look forward to trying more items on the menu.

Was very much looking forward to this meal but was unfortunately disappointed. Out of this world salty and too much sauce ON everything - definitely not typical of Japanese fare. Great service though!

Delicious and interesting! Walked in on NYE and had warm sake, grilled squid, and ice cream mochi all of which were excellent. In the background they had weird japanese movies playing and hip hop music, which was a great vibe. May come back to try the japanese whiskey flights

Overall, this was not an enjoyable dining experience. The price to eat here to enjoy many items on the menu is about $75 per person (this includes tax and tip and drinks). In Chicago you can have an incredibly more enjoyable experience at that price. If you live in the neighborhood and are inclined to test this place for yourself, go ahead. I would say just go there for a drink at the bar. I do not recommend going out of your way to eat here. The drinks and the robata items were the best everything else left you unsatisfied. Service was average. Definitely skip.

Every single dish we had was delicious. The tsukune (Japanese BBQ homemade chicken meat balls) and the kinoko itame (fresh mushrooms sautéed in buttery ponzu) were our favorites and far exceeded our expectations. 10/10 recommend a try. If you aren’t familiar with Japanese cuisine the staff is super friendly and helpful.
