Gold star is a FIVE star bar. Arthur the bartender is always friendly and ready to serve me a drink. If there's a bar in heaven, I hope it's called Gold Star.

Solid nice dive bar with a great beer garden out back and small patio up front. The bar is understaffed and pretty slow. However, it is because the bartender is very friendly, so you often don't even really mind the wait. Dog friendly. Sometimes the doorman's tiny dog Jean Luc is at the bar, which is pretty delightful.

Awesome dive bar experience with great prices on drinks. Tamale guy rolls through in the afternoon, which of course only elevates the experience. People bring in their dogs occasionally, which is also awesome. There's also usually some movie playing on the several TVs inside.
