Community Tavern - Chicago
Husband-and-wife team Joey and Brenna Beato have taken over the reins at Community Tavern in Portage Park. What was once touted as a neighborhood steakhouse when it opened in 2015 is now a modern American eatery influenced by Asian accents.
Community Tavern is open for dinner only, and its menu is separated in four sections: littles, mediums, bigs and communal. There are many highlights in each category, and most items are designed to share.
The chicken and kimchi dumplings, for example, arrive in a citrus-soy dipping sauce and are big sellers on the "littles" section. Another hit is the scallion pancake entree, which comes topped with maple soy, green cabbage and Japanese mayo.
A heaping of fried chicken dressed in chili maple jam, as well as a Tomahawk pork chop and grilled tri-tip steak are also big winners at Community Tavern.
Guests may dine at the bar, which offers a nice selection of tavern-style sandwiches, as well as tables and bar tops.
