Located in Ravenswood, the South African-accented Baobab BBQ is BYOB.
Owner/Chef Andrew Dunlop, who grew up in Johannesburg yet migrated to Chicago more than 20 years ago, loves Chicago- and St. Louis-style barbecue. He puts his spin on it with the South African way of grilling meats, or braai, with menu offerings like sliced beef brisket and the Boerewors Roll (a South African farmers sausage). There’s also traditional monkey gland sauce, a tangy and sweet meat accompaniment that’s popular in South Africa. Those who want traditional American barbecue will find smoked roasted young chicken, St. Louis ribs and rib tips on the menu.
