42 Grams - Chicago
There are only a handful of Chicago eateries that are BYOB and boast Michelin stars--42 Grams, El Ideas, Elizabeth and Schwa. This is a very good list, and each offers something completely different. What also makes them intriguing is that they're all in unconventional neighborhoods.
That's especially true for 42 Grams, the Uptown sensation run by husband-and-wife team Jake Bickelhaupt and Alexa Welsh. In tune with its colleagues, the prix-fixe dining experience is in a unique manner you won't find at the likes of Alinea, Grace or Everest. Note also that they do not accommodate any dietary restrictions (e.g. gluten-free, vegan, dairy).
The music is very loud and a mish-mosh of genres, based on the kitchen staff's tastes. But that doesn't mean that patrons are encouraged to get trashed on their BYOB bounty. The restaurant, in fact, limits the number of bottles of wine to one 750ml bottle of wine or six-pack of beer per person (no hard liquor).
