Troha's Chicken & Shrimp House

Troha's Chicken & Shrimp House - Chicago

Opened in 1917 as a chili and beer joint, the still family-owned Troha's changed focus during the Great Depression, after the family visited New Orleans, and claims to be Chicago's very first fried-shrimp shack. Fried chicken was added to the menu in the 1950s. Today, the carryout spot offers lake perch, scallops, ocean perch, Alaskan white fish, smelt, catfish, scallops, frogs' legs, crab nuggets and pork tenderloin, too.
