Lookingglass Theatre Company - Chicago

Formed in 1988, this award-winning ensemble produces bold new works incorporating dramatic, musical, dance and circus arts.

The Joliet-limestone building housing the theater is one of the few structures to survive the Great Fire of 1871. Although the standpipe of the Water Tower across the street was removed in 1911, this Pumping Station, built in 1866, is still in operation, and you can see the works as you enter the theater.

We loved watching the performance Frankenstein. The actors are incredibly talented and did amazing work with little space and props. Each actor took on multiple roles but the performance was never confusing. We sat against the east wall, towards the middle, and felt like that was perfect placement.

I bought a ticket to see Alice on a whim and hot damn I'm so glad I did. The theater is unlike any I have ever been to. It is small, but in the best kind of way. The front row is right on the same level as the stage and actors. It feels intimate, and the level of crowd participation made it so unique (too me) and incredibly fun. The show was hilarious, whimsical, ridiculous, and breathtakingly beautiful. It was more than just a play. These people are seriously talented. If you are on the fence about seeing a performance here, just do it! I doubt you'll regret it! Can't wait to come back.

A theater in the Water Tower pumping station? Yep. Nice layout too, with the stage surrounded on three sides by comfy seats, and an apprpriately steampunk industrial look.

A small theatre experience on the glitzy Michigan Avenue is what you get from the Lookingglass Theater Company. The bones of the building are an old Chicago pumping station. Seating wraps around the stage on three sides giving you an intimate up close view.

Love this small special theater! But unfortunately due to the pandemic, they have completely blown off people who had purchased tickets for shows that got canceled from covid-19. Does anyone know how to contact the theater? I have called, emailed, directly messaged them on Facebook. No response at all. I've gotten automated messages that say they are operating at low staff. But its been months of me trying to connect with them. I need to speak with someone there about canceled shows or refund. Can anyone help?
