Weekly Planner: Back to School Specials, Vinyl Sundays, Rosé Dinner and More

Back to School Party at Hopewell Brewing Company

In honor of back to school season (sigh), Hopewell Brewing Company in Logan Square is hosting a summer finale with help from Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits. On August 27 in the taproom, the brewery will feature free goods from Bang Bang, bocce, and $1 off pints of Field Day beer all day long. A percentage of proceeds will benefit Open Books, which promotes literacy and reading programs in Chicago.

Vinyl Sundays at Streeterville Social

This weekend is one of the last weekends to celebrate Vinyl Sundays at Streeterville Social, so make it count. In the afternoon, the rooftop lounge features classic vinyl music via live records spun by DJ Speed, along with food and drink specials. The event runs from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and specials include a $10 burger, half priced rosé and $5 beers.

Back to School Brunch at Carnivale

In other back to school news, Carnivale is hosting a special family brunch on Sunday, August 28, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The event features a kid-friendly menu, a DJ, and fun activities like a face-painter and a photo booth. There will also be a stilt walker, because no back to school brunch would be complete without one. Expect specials like chicken fingers with smoked ketchup, grilled cheese, and brioche French toast with brown butter pineapple syrup. Other standbys like mimosass, banana Nutella toast and chicken & waffles will also be on hand.

Wine Wednesdays at Macello

A little bit of wine goes a long way in helping to get over the midweek hump. Head to Macello for a Wednesday remedy every week, when the classic West Loop Italian spot hosts “Wine Wednesdays.” Available all day long, the promo entails half-price bottles paired with live music from La Tosca. A bulk of the wine list is Italian, naturally, which matches nicely with the “Italo-jazz” tunes that start at 7:00 p.m.

Green City Market Dinner Series at Travelle

To celebrate the late-summer bounty at the farmers’ market, chef Ricardo Jarquin at Travelle is featuring themed Green City Market menus every Wednesday for dinner. The four-course tastings cost $45 per person, showcasing market-fresh ingredients through October 26. 10% of proceeds from the menus go directly to Green City Market.

More Reasons to Eat and Drink at Pork & Mindy’s

Thanks to a brand new sandwich and a new BYO policy, Pork & Mindy’s just got that much more enticing. The sandwich shop in Bucktown added a new creation to its menu on August 23, called the Pastra-Mindy, which contains house-cured and smoked thick-cut pastrami, mustard sauce and spicy pickles on a griddled marble rye bun. To cap it all off, the restaurant is now BYOB, allowing guests to bring their own drinks to enjoy with the sandwich or anything else on the menu.

2nd Annual Rosé Dinner at Publican Quality Meats

Summer isn’t over until the rosé stops pouring! And it’s not slowing down anytime soon, as evidenced by the second annual rosé dinner at Publican Quality Meats on September 1. The event consists of a five-course seated dinner with wine pairings. Guests will start with a glass of PQM’s frozé, aka frozen rosé, and dine on the patio (weather permitting). Highlights from the menu include salmon rillette, flounder crudo, falafel, flap steak, and bandaged cheddar and bitter chocolate. The event runs from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and costs $95 per person. To reserve a spot, email ashley@publicanqualitymeats.com.
