Weekday Planner: Pure Pork Awesomeness at Heaven on Seven, A Tale of Two Houses, Tap Swap Spectacular

Pure Pork Awesomeness at Heaven on Seven

One of Chicago's most classic restaurants is teaming up with a celebrity chef out of Atlanta for a dinner event that's sure to be... awesome. Celebrating his new cookbook, Pure Pork Awesomeness, chef Kevin Gillespie of Atlanta restaurants Gunshow and Revival (also of Top Chef renown) will be in town to host a dinner with Heaven on Seven's Jimmy Bannos, showcasing dishes from the porcine cookbook. The event takes place August 17 at 7:00 p.m., complete with book signing. The five-course, alcohol-paired meal includes dishes like slow-smoked pork loin with bitter greens; lemon-ricotta tortellini in ham broth; Vietnamese spareribs with chile and lemongrass; German-style whole roasted pork shank; and banoffee trifle with candied bacon. The cost for the dinner is $85 per person, which includes a copy of Gillespie's book. For tickets, call the restaurant or email events@heavenonseven.com.

A Tale of Two Houses

In other collaborative dinner news, Boarding House and Bohemian House are joining forces for "A Tale of Two Houses" on Wednesday, August 19. The restaurants are teaming up with Failla Winery for a unique, multi-course wine dinner featuring food from both restaurants and chefs, Tanya Baker and Jimmy Papadopoulos. It's a five-course, whole hog affair demonstrating Baker's penchant for contemporary American fare and Papadopoulos' Eastern European stylings. It all starts with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. The cost to attend is $95 per person and tickets can be purchased here

Tap Swap Spectacular

This week must be all about the business collabs, because yet another pairing is taking place courtesy of Roots Handmade Pizza and Bangers & Lace. This time, it's all about the beer, as Roots takes over Bangers & Lace's draft taps on August 17 with its favorite beers and breweries. Following an initial tap takeover on August 3, wherein Bangers took up beer residence for a night at Roots, the pizzeria is returning the favor by manning 15 of Bangers' taps starting at 6:00 p.m. Expect specialty beers from Midwestern staples like Three Floyds, Revolution, Half Acre, Dark Horse, Greenbush, 5 Rabbit, and more. During the tap takeover, Bangers will also offer complimentary mozzarella sticks from Roots for paying guests between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
