Northwestern Mutual Presents Lemon: Chicago

On August 11, a myriad of culinary powerhouses are teaming up for Lemon: Chicago, an event taking place at the Art Institute of Chicago to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. Paul Kahan (Blackbird) and Tony Mantuano (Spiaggia) serve as host chefs, joined by more than 20 revered chefs such as Jose Garces (Mercat a la Planxa) and Cleveland's Jonathon Sawyer. Each chef is assigned a designated table, where they'll prepare special meals for guests at said table. Additionally, eight of the chefs in attendance will host a cocktail reception prior to the seated dinner. The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at the Art Institute of Chicago's South Garden. Sponsorship levels start at a crisp $10,000, while individual tickets go for $750. All proceeds benefit the fight against childhood cancer. More info and tickets here

Vie
(10 years of Vie rocking it in Western Springs)

Greatest Hits at Vie

Another big milestone to celebrate this week is the fact that Vie has been pioneering local and seasonal cookery in Chicagoland for 10 years. Under the tutelage of chef/owner Paul Virant, the Western Springs restaurant has been at the forefront of the Midwestern movement towards sustainable, locally sourced cookery, not to mention his peerless gamut of preserves and pickles. To celebrate this occasion, Vie is offering a weeklong "Greatest Hits" tasting menu from August 11 through August 16, showcasing top dishes served at the restaurant over the past decade. The five-course degustation includes custome favorites, staff picks, and dishes off of Vie's opening menu. All of this for $80 per person. Guests get options for each course, with dishes such as wood-grilled Indiana shrimp with chickpea panisse, crispy Parisienne gnocchi, the Vie salad, and blueberry financier with lemon coriander sauce.
