Sportsman's Club BBQ Series is Back

One of the greatest harbingers of summer is the weekly BBQ series at Sportsman’s Club, wherein the Ukrainian Village cocktail bar hosts a different guest chef/restaurant each Sunday in their backyard patio for a culinary takeover. The series kicks off, aptly, Memorial Day weekend on May 29 with Bridgeport’s newly opened Korean-Polish spot Kimski. The rest of the lineup for the year, which runs through September 25, features a miscellany of newcomers and favorites from last year.

The series is not only a fantastic way to celebrate summer in al fresco style, but it’s a celebration of Chicago’s tight-knit and multifaceted culinary and beverage community.

The afternoon BBQ costs $20 each week for a plate of food and a beer. In addition this year, the bar is maximizing patio season with a Publican Quality Meats takeover on the first Thursday of every summer month, plus a special grill event every Tuesday for the whole season, featuring the culinary handiwork of Kevin Cowens. Another returning tradition is Sportsman’s Club’s collaboration beer, which this year comes via Penrose Brewing Company. It’s called Pitcher Beer, a petite sour with a good amount of tartness and quenching refreshment for summer sipping. It’s available by the glass or pitcher.

The lineup for this year’s BBQ series is as follows:

Kimski on May 29.
The Winchester on June 5.
Presidio on June 12.
Broken Shaker on June 19.
Johnny’s Grill and Mezcaleria Las Flores on June 26.
