Johnny's Grill

Great burger. Solid service in my experience considering how busy it can get. I love when a place keeps it simple and just does what they do best without complicating things .

I remember coming here prior to the change in ownership, so my expectations were sort of low this time. But my God I was surprised. It was a diner with *Really Good Food.* I wish a few other diners closer to my area would take a look at how Johnny's is doing this. I thought there was some kind of inherent in the diner business model stopping them from improving. Thanks Johnny for enlightening me.

Everything I've had so far is amazing. The club sandwich and classic double cheeseburger will keep you coming back. The pancakes and toast are always great (though $6 is steep for toast). Can't say enough good things about this place.

My friend and I really wanted fish and chips and went to Owen and Engine of course, only to learn that they serve fish and chips just at dinner, but the server recommended Johnny's Diner, so we decided to try it. They're fish and chips were terrible. The batter was oily and heavy and had absolutely had no taste other than oil. I think they used talapia and not a good meaty white fish, and for the price we paid they could have at least done up some cod. Overall the meal was very unsatisfying, I don't know how it's still on the menu and both of us felt sick to our stomachs after.

A friend of mine doesn't want to come to this fine establishment because of the gentrification of the neighborhood. Gentrification makes one tasty burger though. I didn't realize that such a gem existed so close to my house. The burger is absolutely perfect and is now among one of my favorites. It is juicy and well seasoned and you get just the right amount of acid form the dijonaise and pickles to counteract the richness of it. Although the menu is a little bit confusing as the six dollar toast options definitely don't mach the overall decor that this establishment brings to the table, it is still a pretty solid option. The coffee is good an I definitely can appreciate a full bar.

I have enjoyed Johnny's every time I've gone. The staff is always nice but not over bearing. It's a no frills diner from a looks perspective but the food is fantastic. I love having a place like this in the neighborhood.

From someone who's in the industry, I have to tell you this is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. The fact that it's right next to Billy Sunday is another bonus. I've never had anything here that is remotely approaching the bad side of good. Everything is always excellent. The service is always fantastic. I've never so much as caught a whiff of anything off-putting in their food. That's probably the reason that this place is now blowing up. Keep supporting great concepts Chicago.
