Johnny Delmonico's is a great American st
eakhouse in the classic tradition. Low-key and low-light, Johnny Delmonico's hearkens back to a time when steakhouses were warm and relaxing spaces where you could kick back with a steak and a drink and some of your best friends in a state of total relaxation and satiation.
For over a decade, Johnny Delmonico's has been voted one of the best steakhouses in Madison. Serving only certified Angus beef, Johnny Delmonico has the kind of wine list that enables diners to find just the right pairing at the right price.
Dinner at Johnny Delmonico's starts with chilled seafood: ahi tuna tartare, assorted oysters or a shrimp cocktail. After that, you may select a soup or salad, and they're all good, but we know why you here: it's for the steak. All the steaks at Johnny Delmonico's are certified Angus beef, served with a demi-glace and brushed with a herb compound butter and sides of garlic mashed potatoes, baked potato or hash browns. Filet mignons come in 6- or 10-ounce portions (we'd go with the 10 because we know this is some of the best steak in Wisconsin). There a delicious 12-ounce New York Strip, and if you want to take it up a notch, there's a 14-ounce dry-aged New York strip that will blow your mind. Similarly, there's a 16-ounce ribeye but also a 20-ounce dry-aged bone-in ribeye which those in the know consistently order. There's also a 10-ounce grass fed sirloin...and a Myazaki A5 Wagyu that's sold by the ounce (as of this writing, $40/ounce).
To amp up the dining experience, there are a range of outstanding sauces and butters including bordelaise, béarnaise, chimichurri, marrow butter, truffle butter, creamy horseradish, au poivre and soy-black garlic butter. Further enhancements include blue cheese crust, sautéed onions, sautéed mushrooms, Oscar style. and steak Diane.
There is a also a spectacular selection of cocktails, as well (of course!) as a broad and deep wine cellar and a good selection of spirits.
