Bronzeville Winery - Chicago

Bronzeville Winery is the biggest thing to hit Bronzeville in quite some time. This bar/restaurant/winery features a rotating wine list of international selections with emphasis upon women, minority and African American-owned labels.

The website for Bronzeville Winery explains that "The team’s goal in the design of Bronzeville Winery is to encourage guests to spend time, to socialize and network in an inviting space that is both comfortable and engaging. The restaurant will act as a cultural incubator highlighting a revolving art collection."

The Bronzeville Winery is a lively place, and Cecilia Cuff (co-owner with Eric Williams of the Silver Room), told the Tribune “We put together a multisensory dining experience that celebrates local artists.”

Opening Chef Whitney McMorris, previously at The Aviary and Terzo Piano, explains that she makes "modern American cuisine inspired by global influences."

To encourage the goal of sharing, half the menu at Bronzeville Winery is devoted to shared plates like Sweet Potato Ribbons, House-made Hummus, Hand-Cut Fries with Dipping Sauce and (everybody's favorite) golden Fried Shrimp with spicy aioli.

In the entree section, you should check out Seared Watermelon-Cut Steak, a slab of luscious melon, seared and browned and served with pickled serrano chilies and vegan feta.

There's a wagyu burger and a vegan burger; the wagyu burger gets a lot of attention (because it's so damn good), but the also quite tasty vegan burger is on offer with gluten-free and plant-based options. Both the wagyu and vegan burgers are mounted on a pain au lait (milk bread) buns from Aya Pastry, dressed with with black truffle aioli.

As this is a winery, you can expect a lot of good glasses to pair with dinner. There is also a spectacular mixologist on staff, so you can get a superb cocktail if you like (or, of course, a beer).
