Al Ferrari opened what may have been the originator of the Chicago-style Italian beef at Laflin and Harrison streets in 1938. This stand, run by his nephews, is still among the best, with house-made beef; well-seasoned, charcoal-grilled Italian sausage; and house-made giardiniera. In classic Chicago style, there's no seating — just a stand-up counter.
