Feed Your Senses at Starving Artist

Guests at this weekend's Starving Artist fete will be anything but starved once they mosey around the sensual wonderland that is this annual art and food event. Going on its third year, Starving Artist is hosted by the Chicago Artists Coalition, a 39-year old non-profit organization dedicated to building and strengthening the local art scene. The lavish bash pairs local artists with local chefs, who join forces for edible works of art and new art pieces that are at once a visual feast and an actual feast. The event takes place Saturday, June 29, at CAC's West Loop/Fulton Market gallery space (217 N. Carpenter) from 7:00 p.m. until midnight.

The premise sounds a bit like a Top Chef challenge, wherein artists and chefs pair up and work together over the months preceding the event to inspire each other and create edible installations and art pieces to be auctioned off during the event. Starving Artist really brought out the A-Team of chefs and artists for the soiree, with a lineup that includes Erick Williams (mk The Restaurant) with Theaster Gates, Bill Kim (Urban Belly and its Belly brethren) with Sabina Ott, Fabio Viviani (Siena Tavern) with Stacia Yeapanis, Jared Wentworth (Longman & Eagle) with Cody Hudson, Abraham Conlon (Fat Rice) with Jordan Martins, and Benjamin Newby (Hennessy Black brand architect) with Marissa Lee Benedict.

In case you're still starving, the event will feature a number of exciting new additions this year, including a taco battle between Antique Taco and Big Star, an outdoor patio curated by Ada Street's Zoe Schor, a food installation by Bar Pastoral's Chrissy Camba and designers Bladon Conner and Aaron Pahmier, and more. Cocktails, wine, and beer will flow freely throughout the evening. There's a reason it's not called Thirsty Artist.

Tickets are $75 for artists and arts administrators, $125 for general admission, and $175 for something called Secret Society, which includes a gift bag and a year-long Collectors Circle membership. Tickets can be purchased here. Proceeds from the event benefit CAC's mission and programs.
