The Glunz Tavern - Chicago
Barbara Glunz and her son, Christopher Donovan, have re-opened this legendary Old Town tavern, which has been vacant for more than 90 years. It was founded by Louis Glunz I—Barbara Glunz's grandfather—and shuttered right before Prohibition.
In its new life, The Glunz Tavern has updated to a somewhat modern setting while paying homage to its roots. Many of the original hardwood accents and fixtures have been restored and the menu offers a taste of classic European fare. Look for the kitchen to crank out charcuterie plates, steamed mussels, and a classic wiener Schnitzel with lemon and pan-fried spaetzle.
