The General - Chicago
While the sheer number of excellent dining and drinking destinations in Logan Square is outstanding, the choices can get overwhelming. One up-and-coming neighborhood gem that's quickly gaining ground is The General, a Southern-focused eatery and bar showcasing a hit bluegrass brunch every Saturday.
That's when three- or four-piece bands set up at the front of the dining room and perform for a few hours as guests munch on signature dishes like the waffle cone and fried chicken taco or The General's Benedict of biscuits, homemade sausage, hollandaise, chives and a touch of paprika.
Dinner is as equally entertaining, with comedy performances on Thursdays, and a daily menu certain to gain regular followers. Highlights include soul nachos (smoked brisket, pork or chicken, cheddar and chihuahua sauce garnished with house slaw, black eyed peas, sour cream, pico de gallo and guacamole), half-fried deviled eggs, smoked bourbon brisket tacos and blackened smoked tofu.
