Came this summer and Blue Door was a Homerun, grand slam with the beautiful weather for their patio! Art Smith knows southern soul food and does it right....
Great atmosphere and staff. It's a pretty intimate space and does feel like you're in someone's kitchen. Great selection of apps, salads, and entrees! We...
Atmosphere is so romantic & cozy! Went here on a Wednesday night and it was not busy at all. They require vaccination proof. We ordered the salmon and...
My work team went to Table Fifty-Two with our clients and had a thoroughly delightful evening. The service was attentive - my wine glass was never empty. The food was delicious, and with a large group we were all able to sample a great variety of offerings from the menu. Every one of us enjoyed our meals. As a southerner, I was especially pleased to find wonderfully prepared examples of southern cuisine such as friend green tomatoes, collard greens, and shrimp grits. The menu is rather limited, but well-prepared and delicious.
This is a beautiful restaurant in every way. Its ambiance and architecture make you feel as if you've just walked into someone's grandmother's home in the south. Smells of fried chicken and mac and cheese greet you as you enter the door. With two quaint floors of very cozy tables and warm lighting, you couldn't feel further from the hustle and bustle of the city. The waiters are extremely knowledgeable and are truly experienced professionals. The food is fantastic. My recommendations: shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, and their bubbling mac and cheese.
So good! When you first walk in, you feel like you've stepped into someone's home. Once seated, the menu is pretty mouthwatering and the food does not disappoint. You MUST try the mac n cheese before you leave and the chicken & waffle, if you're there for brunch. Portions would be considered large for most women that I dine with but perfectly sized for myself. This place is pricey versus getting the same food elsewhere but I found the quality to be well-worth the price tag. Very, very good.
Absolutely amazing southern food. The fried green tomatoes were some of the best I have ever had (and I am from the South). Unfortunately the much raved about fried chicken is only served on certain days, so I haven't had the opportunity to try it. The mac and cheese was recommended to our table, and it didn't disappoint. Next time the counter seating might be a fun experience.
I am looking at reviews and am honestly baffled by the amount of 4 and 5 stars that I'm seeing. This place is mediocre at best and for the cost, there are dozens of other places in the city to try. I went with three people. Everyone at the table agreed that the food was just okay. We got a wide selection - catfish, quail, salmon. Everything was decent. Starters were less than okay - cantaloupe soup was inedible and basic salad was fine. We all agreed that the hummingbird cake was the best part of the meal which, in my opinion, is a little sad. Nothing cooked with pounds of butter and topped with cream cheese frosting and toffee caramel is going to disappoint, I don't care who makes it. I honestly feel that the food was just decent, but I would have had a better attitude if our waiter hadn't acted like he was legitimately mad at us for coming in the whole time. Not sure why, but he was very uppity and had little knowledge of the menu. He also refused to stop in and check on us during the course of dinner - which took forever. We were looking at each other awkwardly by the end of the meal because it was so uncomfortable how bad he was. I would probably have to be convinced to come back here. Better food and better service elsewhere in Chicago. Go to Carriage House in Wicker Park. Southern charm, comfort food, relaxed, and a lot more manageable cost wise. And more delicious :)
