Richardson Adventure Farm - Spring Grove

English immigrant Robert Richardson homesteaded this McHenry Co. farm in 1840; his descendants have increased their Spring Grove property over the years to 450 acres, largely planted in field corn and soybeans. In 2001, the Richardsons began planting what has become the world's largest, most intricate corn maze and opening their farm to the public. The main maze encompasses 28 acres and more than 11 miles of trails, with a variety of games; a second maze spreads over 5 acres. You can see the design from a 50-foot-tall observation tower, which also offers a zip-line ride. Other activities include a giant orb ride and a 50-foot long slide.

Pumpkins and mums are for sale in season, and food concessions feature on fall weekends. Picnic tables, campfire sites and wagon rides can be reserved. Kids can play on pedal carts and trikes and feed the goats. The corn maze and farm activities are open from early September through Halloween. The farm also offers Christmas-tree cutting from late November through late December.
