Pizza Fried Chicken Ice Cream - Chicago
Guess what three items are served at Bridgeport’s Pizza Fried Chicken Ice Cream? That’s right, it’s those three things – pizza, fried chicken and ice cream – and very good versions of each, but if you’re looking for health food, this is the wrong place to be looking; if you’re looking for delicious food, done right, you’ve found it at Pizza Fried Chicken Ice Cream.
The name Pizza Fried Chicken Ice Cream sounds fun, and this place is fun. The pizza, made in house, is superb; the fried chicken is from the very well-regarded Kimski next door; the ice cream is from Pretty Cool, a name well-known to ice cream loving locals.
The super simple menu at Pizza Fried Chicken Ice Cream is divided into three parts: pizza, fried chicken and ice cream.
Sicilian pan-style pizza is what you’ll be served at Pizza Fried Chicken Ice Cream. Your Sicilian pie can be Red (fresh and low moisture mozzarella with house-made red sauce), Sausage, Veggie (white pizza) or Mushroom (with caramelized onion and roasted shallot cream sauce). You can also get a slice, which is a nice option if you’re looking for a (relatively) light lunch.
The fried chicken comes in several formats. There’s the Chicken Sandwich, a lunch favorite with a buttermilk fried chicken breast, pickled onions, lettuce, and mayo on a Butter Dough bun and, yes, fries come with that. The 3-Piece Assorted Fried Chicken Meal comes with sides of potato salad or vinegar slaw and a choice of lemon pepper or Korean fire sauce. There’s also a 6-piece version, and both 3-and 6-piece chicken dinners come with toasted brioche buns from Spoke and Bird Bakery. All chicken is prepared with Chef Won Kim’s Buttermilk Batter, and you get your chicken with a choice of gochujang hot sauce, lemon pepper or “just plain naked.”
When it comes to ice cream, there are lots of options. Here are some favorites: Caramel Horchata Crunch Pop, which is horchata ice cream in a golden caramel shell, topped with crispy rice pearls; Grasshopper is a delicious creation of mint cookies and custard-style ice cream in a chocolate shell with bits of crushed chocolate wafers; and Lychee Lemon Truck Pop is an ice pop with made with half fresh squeezed lemonade and half ice tea made from Rare Tea Cellars Litchi Noir tea leaves.
There are usually a few different beers listed on the menu, but if you have urges for a specific beer or a cocktail of any type, it’d probably be best to take away your pizza, fried chicken and/or ice cream, and drink your own beverages at home.
