Super unique dining experience on Lincoln park’s lake trail. North pond has a really interesting vibe. When you walk in you immediately feel like you’re in some sort of old fashioned social club with a loose up-scale swamp-theme. Many of the accents on the walls and ceilings of the restaurant depict pond animals like frogs, ducks, geese, and fish as well as underwater plants. In the best possible way, the font of the restaurant, the old fashioned vibe, and isolated location when put all together gave the place an American-horror-story-style vibe… but with fantastic and innovative food.
Since the moment we entered my boyfriend and I were treated extremely well: all of the servers were so friendly and courtly and were happy to go above and beyond to ensure we were satisfied. This struck me as unique when compared to some of the other Chicago restaurants — I never once felt rushed or unattended to while eating there.
The tasting menu offers three choices for 4 different courses with an option for an additional course and a wine pairing. We opted to stay with the original menu, picked our favorite two dishes from each, and shared. They offered many “extras” to the courses they listed which was a fun surprise, and definitely added to the experience! Every dish was delicious and special, both in the way they were plated and the flavors they encompassed.
Overall, I loved my experience here. We came for my boyfriend’s birthday, and they gave us custom menus with a birthday message as well as a dessert with happy birthday written in chocolate! I would highly recommend North Pond for a special occasion.
