Gus' is a fantastic choice for a quick bite to eat in the Fulton Market area provided that you are carrying your meal out. Their air-fried chicken always strikes the perfect balance of crunchy and moist, and the fries are seasoned to perfection. The only thing preventing me from awarding them a full five stars is the dine-in service. It's obvious that some (not all) of the women serving have never had any serious experience as waitresses as they violate just about ever cardinal rule that the profession holds dear. Lengthy periods between refills and status checks. A lifetime to settle your bill. Failure to greet incoming customers (unless you're a large party with proportionately larger tips). Not a single shred of warmth in interactions. These few leave a lot to be desired.

This is my happy place! I ate at the original in TN years ago & was so happy when they came to Chicago. The wet batter makes ALL the difference & this bird is so tender, jucy with a crispy crust. Got this delivered because I was craving southern food and was surprised because I honestly don't expect much from southern food in Chicago. Most places here try to do their own take on southern which ends poorly or when they say southern they mean Cajun or bbq. I'm from Tennessee and miss my basic brown color scheme and fried meat &veggie plates. Chicken and collard greens were a tad spicy, but I don't have much of a palate for spice so I'm sure it's normal to most folks. Okra and Mac and cheese is standard fare of what I remember back home. Happy I found this place and will order again.
