Daniel (DJ) Love of Le Bar at the Sofitel Chicago Water Tower won the World Cocktail Competition’s State Finals on March 31, 2009, held at Boka. After numerous heats, DJ was declared the winner by the panel of six judges over the other competing Chicago mixologists with his Ambrosia cocktail. The United States Bartending Guild flew Love to San Francisco to compete in the national competition on May 10.


Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Pernod Absinthe
  • 1 oz cape gooseberry juice (physalis)
  • 1/2 oz Martini & Rossi Bianco
  • 3/4 oz St. Germaine
  • 3/4 oz Martell VSOP Cognac
  • Gold leaf and cape gooseberry for garnish

Directions

  1. Chill a glass and rinse with absinthe.
  2. Combine ingredients in mixing glass.
  3. Shake and strain. Serve up.
  4. Garnish: Dust gold leaf over cocktail. Gooseberry on rim of glass.
