Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea - Logan Square

Intelligentsia, one of Chicago's original and most esteemed local coffee roasters, opened this spiffy new location in Logan Square in Spring 2013. The shop is small and incredibly sleek, decorated almost entirely in white, with a map of Chicago on the back wall and an artsy magazine rack on another. The focal point of the cafe is the central coffee bar, where baristas work their magic on pourover coffee and serve up pastries from Floriole Cafe & Bakery. Along with numerous bar stools, the cafe sports a few booths by the front windows.

Roeser's Bakery

Opened in 1911, the family-owned Roeser's still handcrafts baked goods with Old World care. Check out their custom cakes, wedding cakes, tortes, cookies, the line of low-glycemic treats, and the adjoining Roeser's Party Palace offering party favors and decorations.

Jimmy's Red Hots

Stand-up only, minimalist hot-dog spot serves a limited menu of franks, Polish sausages, tamales, fries and soft drinks.

Purchased by the Jaimes family in 1980, the Whirlaway has been family owned and run ever since. Rumor has it that the original owner placed a bet on a horse that was not favored to win. This horse would later become a triple crown winner. With his earnings the bar was built and named after the horse; Whirlaway.
