Greek Wine Dinner at Publican Quality Meats

Greek wines saunter in the spotlight at Publican Quality Meats for a special dinner on March 2. The family-style affair features guest winemakers Paris Sigalas and Angelo Iatrides, whose wines will be matched alongside a five-course feast by chef de cuisine Joe Frietze. Dishes to look forward to include a mezze plate with burnt eggplant, tahini, hummus, pita, feta, olives, smelt and fries; whole black bass; pastitsio; roasted lamb shoulder; and loukoumades with fib-saba ice cream. The dinner runs from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and costs $75 per person, including wine pairings. For reservations, call 312-496-0012 or email kirsten@publicanqualitymeats.com.

New Menu at il Porcellino

For its latest menu update, il Porcellino embraces old-school Italian roots, and the results are wonderful and saucy. From pappardelle with five-hour meat ragu and gnocchi bolognese to brick chicken Vesuvio and cauliflower Parmesan, there’s plenty to savor at the River North restaurant. Much of the dishes can also be sampled as part of a family-style feast for $39.95 per person, which includes house baked bread, salad, antipasti, pastas and entrees.

Overtime Bar at Revival Food Hall

There’s a new place to imbibe in the Loop, courtesy of Revival Food Hall. By day, the place is beloved for its myriad food vendors and lunch temptations, so it makes sense that the food hall would extend its breadth to please after-work drinkers downtown. The handiwork of bar manager Michael Huebner, Revival Cafe Bar morphs into a booze-focused bar as the day wears on, with cocktails available from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The current crop of drinks includes an Oaxacan Nightcap with mezcal, sherry, Zucca, pipe tobacco and spiced chocolate bitters; the Pet Raccoon with High West double rye whiskey, cinnamon, Giffard Framboise and Fernet Branca; and the New Orleans-inspired Nitro Russian, which has St. George vodka, St. George Nola Coffee Liqueur, coffee cream and chicory. Additionally, every Wednesday evening (plus the first and third Friday of every month) the bar features DJ Galvan from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. And that’s not all: on the second and fourth Friday of every month, Beauty Bar takes over the DJ booth to offer their signature “martini and manicure” packages.

Lenten Special at Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap

With Lent underway, it’s an apt time to shift focus from meats and other decadent dishes to things like seafood and fish. But that doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice flavor and only eat “health food” for the next few weeks. Head to Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap any (or every) Friday through April 14 for their Lenten special: fish & chips for $14.96.
