Weekend Planner: Sunday FUNday, Pilot Light Gala, Coffeeshop Art, and Fat Rice Market

Sunday FUNday at Ugly Mug

West Town's quirkiest cafe goes to the kids on Sunday, December 7 for a little Sunday FUNday action. From 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., Ugly Mug Cafe caters to children 18 months old to 10 years old, wherein the shop turns into a makeshift playground filled with face paint, storytelling, arts, cupcake-decorating, and more. It's $5 per child to attend, and parents can keep themselves happy with plenty of coffee.

Pilot Light's Second Annual Gala

This Friday, you can help empower children with the knowledge necessary to make educated food choices by being a part of Pilot Light's Second Annual Feed Your Mind Gala. Taking place at the Chicago Cultural Center from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. (or from 6:00 p.m. for VIPs), the event brings together a who's-who of local chefs, pastry chefs, and mixologists. Along with a live and silent auction, guests will have the opportunity to peruse the facility sampling dishes from the likes of A10, Lula Cafe, Floriole, GT Fish & Oyster, MK, Topolobampo, Blackbird, Japonais by Morimoto, and more, plus cocktails courtesy of The Violet Hour and Billy Sunday. There will also be student lesson demonstrations to help bolster the organization's ethos. Tickets are $125 for general admission, $175 for VIP, and can be purchased here

Art & Poetry at Cup & Spoon

Looking to embrace your creative, introspective side this weekend? Head to Cup & Spoon on December 6 for some art and poetry. The coffee shop with a penchant for artistry is hosting an art sale from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., featuring wares from Joanna Kurowska, Tina Leto, Anna Mycek-Wodecki, Tom Robinson, and Lidia Rozmus. At 5:00 p.m., avid poet and author Kurowska will also conduct a poetry reading and book signing.

Fat Rice & Friends Holiday Market

'Tis the season to start scouring stores and shops for unique gift ideas for all your friends and kin. The tedious process is a lot more engaging when said shop happens to take place at Fat Rice. The red-hot Logan Square haunt is hosting a holiday market this Sunday, featuring a wide roster of goods from local artisans. Expect lots of food, drink, and offbeat retail items such as comic-inspired posters from Sarah Becan, Portuguese wines, private label beverage blends, local jams, Fat Rice hot sauce, Romanian plum brandy, and more. Every guest in attendance gets a free boozy punch of dumpling.
