Weekend Planner: GLAAD Hatter Brunch, Tuscan Dinner and Cantina Nights
GLAAD Hatter Brunch & Tea Dance
This isn’t your average brunch. Taking place May 15, Pasteur in Edgewater hosts a GLAAD Hatter Brunch & Tea Dance, which features cocktails, tea, dancing, a raffle, and a “hat parade” all for a good cause. The event is co-chaired by Chad Bermingham and Kinley Preston, designed to raise funds and awareness for GLAAD and the LGBTQ community. Wear your wildest hats for the chance to win “Best Hat” or “People’s Choice.” The event takes place from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for the gourmet brunch buffet and continues until 5:00 p.m. for the tea dance. Brunch tickets include food, desserts, bottomless mimosas, Ketel One Bloody Marys, coffee, and tea for $80 per person. The tea dance portion is $20 and includes one drink, a cash bar, and music via DJ Teen Witch Fan Club. There’s also a brunch and tea bundle package for $95. Tickets can be purchased here.
Tuscan Dinner at The Florentine
Take a trip to Tuscany without ever leaving the Loop, thanks to a special dinner at The Florentine on May 13. The Italian restaurant is hosting a wine dinner with winery Marchesi de’Frescobaldi in Tuscany. Brooke Tarkin from the winery will be in attendance to help guide the evening, along with The Florentine’s sommelier Alexandra Sarovich. The dinner will begin with an aperitivo toast and passed plates of sopresatta, fava and pecorino, and asparagus and fresh ricotta crostinis. To follow, there’s a four-course meal with wine pairings, which included dishes like grilled calamari steak, housemade papardelle, pan-roasted NY strip, and Tuscan olive oil gelato. The cost is $75 per person and reservations can be made by calling the restaurant of emailing General Manager Dustin Heilmann at dustin@the-florentine.net.
Cantina Nights at Cantina 1910
There’s a new late-night haunt in Andersonville, and it’s courtesy of beloved Mexican restaurant Cantina 1910. It’s called Cantina Nights, and it takes place Thursdays through Saturdays from 10:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., affording a fun and casual new outing for locals on the far north side. Every weekend, Cantina Nights brings forth burlesque, live Latin music, cocktails, and more.
