Weekend Planner: El Che Bar Preview, Ska Brewing Brunch Takeover, Moules Fest, Mrs. Murphy & Sons Anniversary
El Che Bar Preview at La Sirena Clandestina
El Che Bar is one of the most eagerly awaited dining and drinking destinations in Chicago. The new concept comes via John Manion and Mark Steuer, and instead of twiddling your thumbs in anticipation, put those digits to good use by digging into an El Che preview dinner at La Sirena Clandestina on September 20. The intimate affair promises to get diners up close and personal with the South American inspired spot, as Manion shares personal memories and experiences from his travels that have leant themselves to the menu. Beginning at 6:00 p.m., the event is a four-course meal chock full of Argentine inspirations. The cost to attend is $100 per person and reservations can be made by calling La Sirena.
Ska Brewing Brunch Takeover at Jake Melnick's Corner Tap
No better way to bolster brunch than with a whole bunch of beer. Colorado's Ska Brewing is setting up shop at Jake Melnick's Corner Tap for an especially boozy brunch on September 20. From 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., the beer-inspired fete features "Manmosas" made with Ska's Modus Mandarina and micheladas made with Ska's Mexican Logger. Food-wise, September dining specials include Oktoberfest burgers made with bacon-apple sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard; "Schnitzel Daddy Mac" with a cabbage- and chicken schnitzel-infused mac & cheese; and satay wings in peanut sauce.
Moules Fest at Chez Moi
Raise a glass (or a piece of bread) to mussels at Chez Moi, as the Lincoln Park restaurant hosts Moules Fest now through September 25. It's a multi-day spree of all-you-can-eat shellfish, served with frites, and prepared in a variety of different ways. Options for mussels include marinières with white wine, shallots, parsley, butter, and lemon; Belgium mussels with beer, cream, and bacon; Mediterranean mussels with tomatoes, saffron rice, onions, and basil; and lobster bisque mussels with lobster cream. The cost to partake is just $25 per person.
Mrs. Murphy & Sons 10-Year Anniversary
One of Chicago's preeminent Irish restaurants is reaching a milestone this week, and they're ready to celebrate. In honor of its 10-year anniversary on September 18, Mrs. Murphy & Sons is hosting a party filled with specials. Available from 4:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., drinks include $2 Guinness pints and free Tullamore Dew cocktail samples, along with live Irish music and Mulligan stew. The new fall menu will also be in action, featuring dishes like bacon-wrapped stout meatloaf and peanut butter pie.
