Weekend Planner: Dog Dayz of Summer, Gourmet in the Garden, Ada for the Arts, Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. Auction

Dog Dayz of Summer

The Dog Days of Summer aren't until August, but the Dog Dayz are this weekend, courtesy of Hot Doug's Doug Sohn. This epic homage to hot dogs takes place June 27 and June 28 at the Goose Island Barrel Warehouse at 605 N. Sacramento. The crown jewel of the event, divvied into two sessions at noon and 5:00 p.m. on both days, is the return of Hot Doug's, albeit temporary only for the weekend. Just like the much adored and missed Hot Doug's in Avondale, Dog Dayz will feature some of the best hits of Sohn's unique sausage menu, along with those famed duck fat fries. Just like old times, Sohn will serve the dogs himself, conversing with customers and taking orders. Additionally, Goose Island will be pouring a variety of beers for the occasion, including 312 Urban Wheat, Honker's Ale, Goose Island IPA, Green Line, Blue Line, and specialty tappings of The Ogden, Matilda, Sofie, and different kinds of Bourbon County Stout. Aside form food and drink, Dog Days will feature panel discussions on topics like the history of the Chicago hot dog, plus live music.
Gourmet in the Garden

In anticipation of September's perpetually packed Chicago Gourmet, Piccolo Sogno is pouring out a wine-filled Gourmet in the Garden event on June 27. A Friends of the James Beard benefit, as part of the Bon Appetit Presents Chicago Gourmet's Beyond Gourmet series, this afternoon soiree takes place in Piccolo Sogno's marvelous garden patio, with food stations and 30 different wines. Food-wise, guests can expect varied pizzas, arancini, oysters, crab cakes, wild boar croquettes, razor clams, and bruschetta, while wines run the gamut of sparkling, red, and white. The cost to attend the event, which runs from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., is $50 per person

Ada for the Arts

The onset of summer means it's time for backyard barbecue. Do it in style at Ada Street's upcoming "Ada for the Arts" mural painting and barbecue event. Taking place June  28 at 4:00 p.m., the event is a collaborative charitable effort with street artist Anthony Venturini, who will lead a mural makeover with an al fresco barbecue party to celebrate. While guests watch Venturini work his magic, they can sip Metropolitan Heliostat Lager and eat brats, corn on the cob, potato salad, and more. The $25 ticket price covers food, beer, and access to a cash bar with proceeds supporting Venturini's art as part of the Ada for the Arts non-profit program.

Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. Auction and Lunch at Tru

Tru is at it again. The acclaimed fine dining restaurant is opening its doors to the public earlier than usual on June 26 and 27 for a two-day wine auction with Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. The auction will feature roughly 1,800 lots valued at $3.4-5.4 million, showcasing some of the most revered names in fine wine, including an estate-direct offering from Dom Pérignon’s rare P3. The sale itself is open to the public and free to attend, starting at 9:00 a.m. both days, while a special lunch will be offered for $75 per person. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant or emailing info@hdhwine.com. Folks who can't make it can participate in the auction in real-time via the mobile bidding platform at auction.hdhwine.com.
