Weekend Planner: Cheese Edition

National Cheese Fondue Week at Geja's Cafe

With this week marking National Cheese Fondue Week and Sunday, April 12 being National Grilled Cheese Day, it's a cheesy week to be sure. When looking to binge on all things cheesy, you can't do any better than Lincoln Park's legendary fondue restaurant, Geja's Cafe. To culminate Cheese Fondue Week and celebrate Grilled Cheese Day, the restaurant is hosting its 3rd Annual Cheese Fondue cooking class on April 12 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. At $30 per person, the event teaches guests the ins and outs of Geja's famed Swiss Gruyere fondue. Wine will be served to accompany the fondue. In addition, anyone who mentions National Cheese Fondue Week through April 12 will receive $5 off each premier dinner, and cheese fondue samples will also be available at the bar.

Grilled Cheese Duo at SideDoor

In honor of Grilled Cheese Day on April 12, SideDoor is going big with not one, but two grilled cheese specials. In fact, it's a one-day-only grilled cheese duo, crafted by executive chef Brian Kwak. Sandwich variations include one made with Midnight Moon, smoked cheddar, and black olive tapenade on sourdough, and another with Cowda, Italico, and Dijon on sourdough. Together, they're served with tomato soup for dipping.

Foot-long Grilled Cheese at Timothy O'Toole's

Another one-day-only special for Grilled Cheese Day can be found at Timothy O'Toole's Pub in Streeterville. This one's a biggie. The special sandwich is a foot-long grilled cheese served with tomato basil sauce for $12. The beer of the month, ideally paired with the grilled cheese, is Founders All Day IPA.
