Weekend Planner: Battle of the Balls, Crawfish Boil at Frontier, Back to the Future Pizza

Battle of the Balls at Formento's

It's a veritable meatball melee at Formento's this weekend, as the West Loop Italian restaurant prepares to host the first annual "Battle of the Balls" on Sunday, March 6. The premise is simple: Chicago chefs gather to square off in the kitchen and see who can cook the best meatball. Attendees will get to taste their way through a variety of internationally inspired meatballs, while sipping Terlato wine, Goose Island beer, and Negronis from the Campari Negroni bar. Chefs in attendance include Sean Pharr of The Bristol, Paul Virant of Vie and Perennial Virant, Christine Cikowski and Josh Kulp from Honey Butter Fried Chicken, Brian Enyart and Jennifer Jones from Dos Urban Cantina, Duncan Biddulph from The Winchester, Nathan Sears from The Radler, and more. Tickets are available for two times slots: noon and 2:00 p.m. The cost is $60 per person and can be purchased online here

Crawfish Boil at Frontier

It's time for another can't-miss crawfish boil at Frontier! The West Town restaurant, presided over by New Orleans native chef Brian Jupiter, knows its way around a successful crawfish boil, and the next rendition on March 6 is to be hosted in conjunction with Who Dat Nation Chicago Chapter. It all starts at 5:00 p.m. and costs $25 per person, which entails an all-you-can-eat crawfish boil with potatoes and corn on the cob aplenty. Snag your tix here

Back to the Future Pizza at Tesori

A special pizza inspired by none other than Back to the Future is on deck March 4 at Tesori. The occasion? The 30th anniversary of the movie is being celebrated at nearby Chicago Symphony Orchestra with a special movie screening that day. Inspired by the scene in the movie where Marty McFly eats and a green and red dehydrated pizza, Tesori chef Danny Sweis is serving up a specialty pie made with pepperoni and broccoli rabe with half marinara, half broccoli rabe pesto and fresh mozzarella. The pizza costs $15 and will be available from 11:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. For tickets to the movie screening, visit here
