Monday Supper at Floriole Cafe & Bakery

Winter comfort food season isn't over yet! Case in point, Floriole is hosting a special Monday supper event on March 14 filled with hearty grains, root vegetables, and general coziness. The five-course dinner takes place from 7:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. in the second-floor loft space. To start, there's an "over-winterized" root panzanella with sourdough and greens, followed by porridge with egg and ham. Third is bread with cultured butter and ramp powder, and chicken with roasted carrots, mole, and arugula is fourth. For dessert, it's parsnip cake with roasted apple and pink peppercorn custard. Tickets are $45 per person
Whiskey Class at Big Star

Whiskey fanatics, take note. Big Star is hosting a special whiskey class on March 16, perfect for the aficionado looking to take his or her obsession to the next level. Hosted in part by Big Star's beverage director Laurent Lebec and Heaven Hill's Master Distiller Denny Potter, the class covers the history and flavor of Elijah Craig bourbon, along with a look into bourbon's unique relationship with music. Guests will sample several rare editions of Elijah Craig, plus a Heaven Hill 6 Year House Whiskey Sour, and snacks from the kitchen. The class gets underway at 6:00 p.m. and costs $75 per person. Beer Dinner at Bohemian House

If beer and Eastern European food is more your style, snag a seat at Bohemian House's beer tasting dinner on March 15 or March 16. The coveted River North restaurant is serving up a four-course chef's cellar menu with four flights of 9 oz. beers on both nights from 5:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Courtesy of chef Jimmy Papadopoulos, the menu begins with smoked golden trout with marinated cucumbers, lemon creme fraiche and poppy seed. Next is spicy beef heart tartare with radish, scallions, and rye toast, followed by a third course of braised pork belly. The menu wraps up on a sweet note with banana Bavarian cream, peanut mousse, and bitter chocolate paczki. Additionally, attendees will receive a digestive shot of Underberg in a specialty shot glass. The cost for the dinner is $65 per person. 

Amaro Release Party at Balena

In other booze news, Balena recently collaborated with CH Distillery on a special custom amaro perfectly befitting the restaurant's Italian roots. To celebrate the new release, Balena is hosting an amaro tasting on March 15 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Folks in attendance will get to sample various amaro cocktails made with CH Amaro-Balena, CH Amaro, and CH Fernet Dogma, along with wood-fired pizzas from the kitchen. The cost is $25 per person and reservations can be made by calling the restaurant.
