Sweet of the Week: Marshmallow Fudge Milkshake at Margie's Candies

There's nothing quite like a milkshake in November to give cold weather the middle finger. I don't care what anybody says, I scream for ice cream and ice cream-adjacent confections all year long, regardless how frigid it makes my insides feel. My favorite thing of all is the mighty milkshake. There's something so innately and deeply satisfying about slurping down a too-thick-to-sip-through-a-straw milkshake, packed with all the fatty goodness of real ice cream and milk. With so many highfalutin, newfangled milkshakes in town, it's easy to overlook the old-school classics. But they're classics for a reason, and the milkshakes at Margie's Candies are worth revisiting. Particularly my favorite, the fudge marshmallow milkshake.

Margie's has been chugging along with its ice cream wares for nearly a century, pleasing different generations of sweet toothed patrons with its icy, sugary goodness. This is the type of timeworn parlor that uses legit milkshake glasses, fills them to the brim, and serves them on metal trays with milkshake remnants pouring over into a mixer cup. Spoon: check. Straw: lol but check. Wafer cookie for milkshake dunking: check. The great thing about the fudge marshmallow shake is how it looks like a standard chocolate shake, but tastes lighter, fluffier, and creamier thanks to the gooey marshmallow component. Basically, everything you like about a chocolate shake is accentuated. It's heavy and intense, but impossible to stop eating/drinking. The dome of billowy whipped cream on top is the perfect capper, providing a slightly tangy finale.
