Sneak Peek at SteakBar

Last year saw an unprecedented surge in new steakhouses in Chicago. From Prime & Provisions to STK, Swift & Sons, Boeufhaus, and Maple & Ash, the city was bursting at the seams with haute new steak options, accelerating this steakhouse-loving town into a new era. While 2016 may not be as jam-packed with beef as last year (2015 will be hard to top), there are some promising new prospects on the horizon. Along with GT Prime, which we’ve been awaiting for months, along comes news of a new Old Town steakhouse courtesy of two powerhouse restaurant and bar groups.

SteakBar
Could the SteakBar burger give Au Cheval a run for its money?

SteakBar is on its way to 1500 N. Wells St. in the heart of Old Town’s bustling retail and dining corridor. The names behind the concept should sound familiar to you if you dine out in Chicago at all. It’s a partnership between Four Corners Tavern Group, which operates all over the city with spots like Schoolyard, Benchmark, and Gaslight, and Hogsalt Hospitality. The latter is responsible for a slew of heavy-hitters like Bavette’s, Maude’s Liquor Bar, Doughnut Vault, The California Clipper, Au Cheval, and Green Street Smoked Meats. Combining their penchants for hospitality, design, drinking, dining, and that neighborhood-oriented mentality, SteakBar looks to be a steakhouse like no other.

Few details are available yet on SteakBar, though it’s safe to say it will skew much more casual than the types of hifalutin, ritzy concepts that have opened over the past year. A quick glance at their sparse Facebook page confirms as such, with teaser photos of what looks like steak nachos and a pretty incredible looking burger.

Stay tuned and get ready for more steak.
