Restaurants and Bakeries Cheer on the Blackhawks

Despite constantly being let down by the Bears and the Cubs, we've at least got one professional sports team worth a damn in the Chicago Blackhawks. On their road to (hopeful) glory, local restaurants and bakeries are showing elaborate signs of support through special menu items and displays.

As the Blackhawks roll on their way to the Stanley Cup, Ra Sushi is getting literal with a special maki item at their Chicagoland locations (Gold Coast, Glenview, Lombard). The Roll to the Cup maki features crunchy shrimp tempura, spicy crab mix and cucumber, flecked with tempura bits and drizzled with eel sauce. The rolls even cost $5.26, in honor of the Blackhawks' founding in May, 1926. Get it? The rolls are available as a special throughout the playoffs. To wash it all down, Ra Sushi also has Sake Sangria in both white peach and red blackberry through June.

Now you need something sweet. When you're stocking up on game day snacks, don't overlook the special Blackhawks cookies at the Goddess and Grocer and Goddess and The Baker. Themed butter cookies will be in attendance at all Goddess shops by Friday, decorated with royal icing in imagery like hockey jerseys and Blackhawks symbols. The cookies go for $4.95 each.

In Roscoe Village, Commonwealth Tavern is showing a big sign of support with their brand new mural. Crafted by Chicago's very own sign painter Ches Perry of Right Way Signs, the new 400 square foot mural is displayed on the restaurant's exterior facade to help amass fan support for the playoffs. The mural is especially apropos considering Perry's personal proclivity for hockey; the man has been playing the sport for the past 60 years, even having the opportunity to play with Wayne Gretzky and a slew of others.
