Labor Day Dining Guide 2016

As August winds down and the end of summer draws near, it’s time to start planning Labor Day activities accordingly and ending the season on a high note. Fortunately there are plenty of opportunities to do so in Chicago this year.

Celebrate Labor Day at The Kitchen

No better way to celebrate a summer holiday than with a bargain and some booze and food. Joy District has just the ticket. The new River North hot spot is offering 20% off your entire bill on Sunday and Monday of Labor Day weekend for local unions with badge.

It’s “Monday Funday” at The Kitchen, which is celebrating the holiday with all-day specials on drinks, oysters, and snacks. Expect $8 glasses of select red, white, and rosé wine, $4 select beers, and 50% off snacks and appetizers.

Nothing like a little leisurely Monday brunch to do Labor Day right. In North Center, Kick restaurant is holding a special weekday brunch from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., featuring the full array of weekend dishes plus some specials. These include cookies and cream French toast, Cocoa Puffs-crusted French toast with chocolate cream filling, hot fudge and whipped cream. There’s also a candied bacon burger with chipotle BBQ sauce and haystack onions. To drink, Kick is serving up mimosa buckets with a bottle of sparkling wine and choice of two juices.

Both locations of Shaw’s Crab House are saluting the American workforce this Labor Day with 1/2 priced oysters all day long on September 5. Available in the oyster bar at each restaurant, guests can slurp to their hearts content on East and West Coast varieties. Additionally, the Schaumburg location will be extending the deal to the patio.

Shaw’s sister restaurant, Oyster Bah, is getting in on the action as well. The Lincoln Park seafood haunt is hosting a BBQ on September 5 from 11:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., serving up summery specials like fried chicken with Bad Seed hot sauce, baby back ribs, and steamed lobster. All dishes come with sweet corn on the cob and cole slaw.

If you spend Labor Day weekend at Forno Rosso, it can really pay off for you with airfare to Italy. On Sunday, September 4, guests at brunch will be able to fill out an entry form to win a pair of tickets to Italy, with winners announced September 11. Weather permitting, there will also be beer pong for $10 per team on the patio. The brunch menu, meanwhile, contains delicacies like veggie breakfast pizza, pancakes with mascarpone and Amarena cherries, Nutella French toast and frittatas.
