Green City Market Junior Board Hosts A (Mostly) Veggie Affair
Cheating is only acceptable when it involves vegetables and meat and no broken hearts. And a slew of chefs. Such is the delicious affair taking place at the Green City Market Junior Board's fall fundraiser on October 3, "A (Mostly) Veggie Affair: Cheat on Meat or Go Whole Beast!" The event goes down at Chicago's latest entertainment venue, 1st Ward, opening any day now.
Eight of Chicago's most esteemed chefs will be tasked with cooking dishes using Green City Market produce with no meat. Vegetable-slingers include Joshua Marelli of 1st Ward's adjoining sister restaurant, Chop Shop, Thai Dang of Embeya, Hunter Moore of Parson's Chicken & Fish, Zoe Schor of Ada Street, and two Junior Board members, Eric Mansavage of Farmhouse and Jared Van Camp of Nellcote, RM Champagne Salon, and Old Town Social. Now here's the kicker: two other chefs (Paul Virant of Perennial Virant and Vie, and Bill Kim of Urban Belly, Belly Shack, and bellyQ) will be cooking with whole animals. So guests can opt to "Cheat on Meat or go Whole Meat." Get it?! Affairs are tasty!
Along with food, the event will feature four of Chicago's top mixologists, including Charly Joly from The Aviary and Ben Fasman from Big Star, to mix drinks with local spirits and produce, and 1st Ward will feature live music by local synth-pop band Hey Champ.
It all goes down October 3 from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m., with proceeds benefitting Green City Market's LINK Card matching program. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased here.
