Brunch Bites: Kinmont and SideDoor
Add Kinmont to your brunch itinerary, as Chicago's first entirely sustainable fish and seafood restaurant is now serving brunch under chef Duncan Biddulph. As the ethos at Kinmont might suggest, seafood takes much of the spotlight on the brunch menu. Because it's never too early in the day to feast on king crab souffle, fried oyster omelettes, and cold smoked arctic char with toasted bagels. Additionally, the restaurant will offer non-nautical items such as pigs in a blanket with The Butcher & Larder sausage links enrobed in potato croissants, Parker House roll bread pudding French toast, and the Kinmont fry, a savory medley of baked eggs, fried oysters, and pork jowl. Expect interesting day-drinking options from mixologist Jason Brown.
While Kinmont skews seaward, SideDoor offers a beefier alternative for brunch. The American gastropub within Lawry's The Prime Rib is Chicago's meatiest new brunch addition. Expect dishes such as chicken fried prime rib, prime rib hash, flapjacks with whiskey caramel sauce, and The Deadbolt, a hamburger patty served with hashbrowns, sunnyside-up eggs, cheese curds, and Tabasco Bordelaise. Brunch beverages are just as substantial, from the Bloody Bull splashed with port wine au jus to the Morning Glory made with whiskey, Cherry Heering, Early Grey, maple, and lemon.
