Brunch Bites: Chilaquiles Brunch Burger, Doughnut Fried French Toast Redux, and Valentine's Day Brunch Specials

That pesky debate as to whether order breakfast-y food or lunch-y food at brunch is solved, thanks to a new burger at DMK Burger Bar that seamlessly bridges the gap. The chilaquiles brunch burger combines one of the most salacious, hangover-defeating breakfast foods stacked atop a sustainable beef patty in one convenient handheld package. All the essential chilaquiles elements are in place, including scrambled eggs, jalapeño, tortilla chips, tomatillo salsa verde, and Jack cheese, but instead of forking it into your mouth, you'll shove it in with your fists.
Doughnut fried French toast, strawberry shortcake pancakes, and pastrami hash are some of the belt-busters rounding out the latest brunch menu at Public House. Doughnut-shaped fried brioche French toast has been a decadent fixture at Public House for several months, but the dish recently underwent a slight facelift, adding vanilla creme anglaise and seasonal housemade jam to the mix. Strawberry shortcake pancakes conjure images of spring, with fresh strawberry jam and mascarpone creme heaped atop tender buttermilk pancakes. For something more savory, the BLT Benedict features housemade maple bacon, poached eggs, and "secret" hollandaise sauce on housemade English muffins. Hash achieves a new high in Public House's pastrami hash, a hodgepodge of smashed potato, charred onion, sunny-side up eggs, and housemade pastrami.
When it comes to romance in the morning, there's nothing like red velvet cake doughnuts and banana bread French toast. These and other dishes round out the roster of Valentine's Day brunch specials at 2 Sparrows. Other items include brioche doughnuts with espresso anglaise and cocoa nibs, chicken and waffles, grilled romaine Caesar salad, a St. Germain Rose Cocktail, and something called Cupid's Sting, a mix of Tanteo cocoa tequila, housemade horchata, cherry, and chocolate.
