Brunch Bites: Bistronomic and Kanela Breakfast Club

In this week's batch of brunch bites, Bistronomic sweetens up its brunch offerings and Kanela Breakfast Club prepares to expand its brunch breadth.

Just in time for the summer heat, Bistronomic is simultaneously sweetening and lightening up its brunch menu with new additions from executive chef Martial Noguier and head chef Jérôme Bacle. Shifting sweets focus from indulgent confections to more fruit-forward pastries, Bistronomic is serving up cherry financiers with almond, star anise, and pistachio ice cream; lemon tarts with linzer dough, meringue, and mixed berry coulis; and artisanal raspberry sorbet with powdered sugar and berry coulis.

Chicago is rife with brunch-focused restaurant "empires." Look at the expansive arrays of Yolk, Bongo Room, Waffles, and m. henry and m. henrietta. Joining that lineup is Kanela Breakfast Club, an eatery originated a few years ago in Lakeview that has quickly expanded throughout the city. Next came an Old Town outpost, followed later this year by a Streeterville location. Diners can expect a similar Greek-inflected menu as the sister spots and a lively, bright ambience akin as well. Only this time it will boast entrancing views of Lake Shore Drive and the Lake.
