Weekly Planner: Schnitzelfest, Smoketober Fest, Ice Cream Social and More

Schnitzelfest at Bohemian House

There’s a couple unique spins on Oktoberfest happening this week and this month in Chicago, starting with this one at Bohemian House. The Central European-inspired restaurant is hosting “Schnitzelfest” from September 16 through September 22, highlighting that quintessential comfort food in all its glory with the help of a few local guest chefs. Each day of the fest, Bohemian House will feature a special schnitzel dish by a different chef, starting with pickle-brined sweetbread schnitzel by The Duck Inn’s Kris Delee on September 16. This’ll be followed by pork schnitzel with ash-roasted beets and beet top gremolata by El Che Bar’s Brian Szwaya, chorizo schnitzel by Alex Gialanella of Bread & Wine on September 18, skate wing schnitzel with habanero crema by Dan Salls of Quiote on September 19, yogurt-brined chicken schnitzel sandwiches with tomato jam by Forbidden Root’s Dan Weiland on September 20, pork schnitzel with ginger-apple sauce and kimchi slaw by Gemini’s Ernesto Ozuna on September 21 and finally, headcheese crouton schnitzel by James Lintelmann of Baptiste & Bottle on September 22. Also on September 22, Bohemian House will cap off the festival with a live performance by traditional German band, Die Musikmeisters. Throughout Schnitzelfest, the restaurant will also have beer specials like $5 Sünner Kölsch steins and $12 Weihenstephaner festbier steins.

“Smoketober” Fest at Smoke Daddy

In other Oktoberfest news, Smoke Daddy is putting a barbecue spin on the German tradition with its own “Smoketober” Fest running September 16 through October 3. Throughout the festival, the Wicker Park restaurant will feature a slew of unique specials fusing all-American barbecue with European comfort food. This includes smoked German sausage sandwiches with potato salad, smoked corned beef sandwiches giant pretzels with beer cheese, smoked German sausage platters, smoked brisket and more. Leinenkugel’s Oktoberfest pints will be on deck for $5, and Two Brother’s Atom Smasher pints will go for $7.

Antique Taco Ice Cream Social

In non-Oktoberfest news, Antique Taco is capping off summer in style at its original Wicker Park location with an ice cream social. Free (!) ice cream cones are the bill of fare for the event, which runs September 20 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., along with an arts and crafts table and live music.

Sunday Supper Club at Cherry Circle Room

Cherry Circle Room is the latest restaurant to roll out a Sunday Supper program, and true to form, it’s stylish and elegant as heck. Every Sunday, guests at the restaurant can enjoy a prix fixe dinner featuring roasted leg of lamb, mashed potatoes, lemon pie and more, all of which represent some of the biggest fan favorites from Cherry Circle Room’s regular dinner menu. The best part: all it costs is $40 per person.

Casamigos Tequila Dinner at Cantina Laredo

Oktoberfest isn’t the only traditional holiday taking place this week. In honor Mexican Independence Day, Cantina Laredo is rolling out a multi-course tequila-paired dinner on September 16. Starting at 7:00 p.m., Casamigos Tequila takes the spotlight with a cocktail reception followed by a four-course meal highlighting the history of the brand, modern Mexican dishes and of course, cocktails. Dishes to be served include chorizo and shrimp hurache, cranberry salad, grouper and lemon-blueberry cake, each paired with its own tequila tipple. The cost for the meal is $59.99 per person and reservations can be made by calling Cantina Laredo.
