Smith & Wollensky Takes Flight With Spring Wines

Nothing really says spring like a flight of wines sipped al fresco. Toasting to the season, the Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group, headquartered in Boston, is rolling out two different wine flights to help kickoff the official onset of patio dining season.

The flights both skew international and are both deeply refreshing, with an emphasis on crisp white wines and bracing rosés. Available through the end of June, Smith & Wollensky wine flights are launching at locations in Boston (naturally), Columbus, Miami, Chicago and Houston. Each flight costs $25.

First up is a white wine flight, which includes the following:
- Bodega Colomé Torrontes: a light and refreshing wine with notes of jasmine and orange blossoms.
- Schloss Johannisberg Gelblack Qualitatswein Feinherb Riesling: a single-vineyard German Riesling wine that’s nice and fresh with tart acidity. White flowers come through on the nose, along with tinges of lemon peel and pear.
- Louis Latour Montagny 1er cru “la Grande Roche” Chardonnay: expect a big hit of floral and honeysuckle from this one. It’s got a rich, full mouthfeel, along with flavors of almond, apricot and pepper.

The rosé flight is available only at Boston, Miami, Chicago and Houston outposts, and consists of the following:
- Chateau d’Esclans Whispering Angel: it’s a rosé from Provence with a lush bright pink hue and vivid flavors of cherries and red berries.
- Domaine De Cala Classic: this one’s a blend of Cinsault, Syrah and Grenache red varietals with Rolle white grapes, resulting in aromas of white flowers and lemony, peachy flavors.
- Domaine De Cala Prestige: Silky-smooth and shiny, grapefruit and citrus fruits come through strongly, followed by cherry.

Looking to pair these flights with some food? You really oughta. Smith & Wollensky has rolled out a bevy of spring plates perfect for snacking and grazing. These include clams casino, crab cakes, shellfish towers and steak tartare.
