Best Spots for Pie in Chicago

Everyone knows about pie spots like Hoosier Mama Pie Company and Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits, and rightfully so, but here’s a roundup of some other deserving dessert destinations during the holidays, the time of year when pie cravings reach their apex.

One of the best new names on the pie scene is Spinning J in Humboldt Park. The vintage-inspired soda fountain and bakery features an ever-changing assortment of pies in flavors like hibiscus-key lime, s’mores, sweet potato, and classic apple. 

Considering the owners of Baker Miller helped open Bang Bang Pie, it’s no surprise that the pie offerings at this Lincoln Square staple are top-notch. Varieties change on the regular, but diners can expect offbeat options like butterscotch, maple cream, and choco-caramel turtle cheesecake. 

Bake is a little slice of Americana nostalgia in Bucktown, so it makes sense that they do pie really well. Along with their impeccable cakes, cupcakes, and cookies, pie offerings for the season include apple, pumpkin, pear, cranberry, and bourbon pecan. 

Lovely: A Bake Shop is another apt destination for homey Americana. The quaint West Town bakery regularly features an assortment of comforting desserts, including pies. For Thanksgiving, the shop has classic apple pie, pecan pie, chocolate pecan pie, pear-cranberry pie, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin-pecan. 

Head to Uptown's always-wholesome Baker & Nosh for wonderful renditions of classic American desserts and other baked goods. Currently, this includes pumpkin pie. Made fresh daily, they'll restore your faith in a dessert that's been beaten to death basically everywhere else.

Another pie-inspired option is available via More, the boutique cupcake shop in the Gold Coast. Fusing pie with cake, the bakery offers unique sweets options like a pecan pie cupcake, a lemon meringue cupcake, and a pumpkin-cinnamon-cream cheese variety that tastes like a slice of pumpkin pie. 

One of the best offbeat destinations for pie is Shaw’s Crab House. While most renowned for its bracing seafood dishes, make sure to save room for dessert, especially for the pumpkin pie. The dessert is made with fresh roasted pumpkins from Tom’s Farm in Huntley, Illinois, seasoned with cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and ginger. 

Pies are the bread and butter of the dessert menu at Chicken & Farm Shop at Soho House Chicago. No better way to cap off a meal of rotisserie chicken than with heaping portions of lemon meringue pie or deep dish-style apple pie. 

For a slice of pie you’re not soon to forget, head to Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse. The iconic Gold Coast restaurant serves some of the largest slices you’ll ever see, towering over plates in flavors like macadamia turtle pie and chocolate mousse pie.
