Brunch Bites: Parts & Labor and Brunch

In this week's batch of brunch bites, Parts & Labor beefs up the weekend repast with brunch burgers and Brunch ups the ante on decadent a.m. confections.

Brunch
(Doughnut. French. Toast.)

Parts & Labor is revered in Logan Square for its straightforward formula of classic American burgers, beer, and cocktails in a garage-like setting. Now there's more to love about the barstaurant, with the onset of "Bob's Brunch" on Saturdays starting October 11. The new weekly brunch series starts at noon, featuring brunch burgers in tandem with screenings of Bob's Burgers. So now you can finally eat brunch burgers while watching cartoon burger antics. Said burger features an open-faced griddled patty topped with a fried egg, bacon, and fresh vegetables from the nearby Logan Square Farmers' Market. In case beef isn't your thing, Parts & Labor also offers non-beef patty options including vegetarian black bean, grilled chicken, grilled tuna, and vegan burgers. To drink, there's craft beer aplenty and Bloody Marys bedecked with skewered giardiniera.

All that savory excess requires an ample dosage of sugar to balance it out. Nothing better than griddled doughnuts, right? The aptly named Brunch restaurant in River North has introduced one of the most indulgent confections to ever grace a brunch menu with its new doughnut French toast. It's pretty much as insane as it sounds, made by slicing two cake doughnuts in half cross-wise, soaking them in housemade French toast batter, and grilling them until tender and doughy. It's all finished with a splash of citrus cream and maple syrup, because at this point you may as well gild the lilly.
