Schaller’s Pump - Chicago
The oldest tavern in Chicago, Schaller's opened in 1881. It operated as a speakeasy during Prohibition and then was purchased and renamed by George "Harvey" Schaller after repeal. The "Pump" part of the name refers to the fact that Schaller bought his beer from a now-vanished adjoining brewery, pumping it through the wall.
Still owned and operated by the Schaller family, this haven for Sox fans, local politicians (the 11th Ward Democratic office is across the street) and Bridgeport neighbors offers a menu focusing on straightforward American favorites, such as their signature butt steak.
